The Hilton Head Choral Society was founded in 1975, to perform Handel’s Messiah. Our repertoire and membership have been expanded to include major classical and contemporary works and seasonal favorites. The Hilton Head Choral Society (HHCS) is an open membership to community members who love to sing and enjoy good fellowship.
An orchestra of professional musicians and professional soloists are included in our concerts, as the music of the masters requires. A concert may total over 200 instrumentalists and singers! HHCS’s 43rd season kicks off on Friday, September 14, 2018, 8PM at First Presbyterian Church.
The one hundred voice ensemble presents four major programs per season – A Fall Pops Concert, A Christmas Concert, a Masterworks or Classics Concert, and a Memorial Day concert honoring America and our Armed Forces with American Music.
HHCS Rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 PM beginning early July through Memorial Day. Rehearsal site is The Cypress Clubhouse, located at 20 Ladyslipper Lane, Hilton Head Plantation. Choral Society Concerts are held at the First Presbyterian Church on William Hilton Parkway and Holy Family Catholic Church on Pope Avenue.
We are a non-profit organization. The HHCS is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. HHCS dues are charged to partially cover musical expenses. The primary sources of financial support come from concert ticket sales, member dues, patrons, donors, sponsors, and grants.
Our organization is a member of Chorus America, a national organization promoting the art of choral singing.
