The perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend on Hilton Head Island is at the Hilton Head Choral Society’s annual “America Sings!” concert! We would love for you to join us on Sunday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway. It truly is one of the signature events in the Lowcountry commemorating the true meaning of Memorial Day. Each year this event is a powerful salute honoring those who have fought for our freedom. “America Sings!” is so much more than just a concert! The performance includes a military keynote speaker, the Category V brass quintet from Columbia, SC and presentation of colors by Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue.

It will be an unforgettable evening with moving musical tributes like the “Armed Forces Salute,” “The Road Not Taken” and “A Just and Lasting Peace” highlighting the sacrifice made by our military throughout the history of our country.  We’ll even get the audience involved in this touching tribute to our military as the 72 voice Choral Society invites concertgoers to join in singing the “Star Spangled Banner.”

What culd make this patriotic evening even better? Well … the Category V Brass will accompany the Choral Society! Founded in 2017, Category V Brass is a quintet based out of Columbia, SC. Members include:  Noa Miller, (trumpet); Eric Gilfus (horn); Blake Lawson (trombone); Justin Clarkson (tuba); and Antonio Martí (trumpet). Each member belongs to symphonies in South Carolina and Georgia. The group formed with a focus on performing repertoire that captivates audiences with familiar and pleasing tunes. Fun fact – the name Category V originated from one of the group’s early rehearsals that occurred on the weekend that Hurricane Irma (a Category 5 hurricane) was predicted to come through SC!

The community Memorial Day celebration will also feature special guest speaker Colonel Oren D. Leff, USAF. He is a decorated lawyer who has served in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years and has been active as general counsel for the Continental Region of North American Aerospace Defense Command since 2021. In this post, Leff is the senior legal counsel in direct support of air and space operations, domestic operations, and homeland defense. Holding varying posts every two to three years, he previously served as the general counsel for the Air Force Test Center and the special adviser to the Commander within the Commander’s Action Group for NATO Allied Joint Force Command, where he planned, executed, and managed the commander’s international diplomatic engagement to shape United States and NATO foreign policy throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Eurasia.

We hope to see you there! Put on your red, white and blue and invite your friends, neighbors and visitors to this casual, family-friendly concert that honors our heroes and celebrates our country’s freedom!
