Artistic Director

The Hilton Head Choral Society is excited to welcome Dr. Dustin C. Ousley as the new Artistic Director for the 2022-23 season. Dustin brings with him years of experience studying, teaching, participating in, and directing musical performances in a variety of settings. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from UNC-Greensboro and a Doctorate of Music Arts from University of South Carolina.

Currently, Dustin is an Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Choral Activities and Coordinator of Choral Music Education at Charleston Southern University. He serves as the director of the Concert Singers and the Singing Buccaneers (an all-male ensemble) at CSU. In addition to ensemble responsibilities, Dustin has taught a variety of classes including Elementary Music Methods, Conducting, Applied Voice, Music Appreciation, Aural Skills, and Music Theory.

Throughout his career, Dustin has served as musical director in a variety of churches, community choral groups and schools. Dustin also finds time to work as a choral clinician throughout North Carolina and South Carolina at the middle and high school level. No stranger to the stage himself, Dustin has performed roles in over 40 productions with the University of South Carolina, South Carolina Children’s Theatre, Greenville Little Theatre, Creative Arts Shoestring Theatre, Hickory Community Theatre, Green Room Community Theatre, Hudson Dinner Theatre, Fred T. Foard High School and Coker College Theatre. Recently Dustin was invited to conduct at Carnegie Hall in the summer of 2023. In attendance for this special event will be members of the Hilton Head Choral Society along with other singers Dr. Ousley is associated with.

With his intense background in choral conducting, voice building, and choral tone, as well as, his love for BRINGING THE JOY OF SONG to others – the Hilton Head Choral Society is looking forward to Dustin’s leadership and creative vision for years to come.
