Celebrate Renewal: An Evening of Reflection and Harmony
This spring, the Hilton Head Choral Society invites the community to experience an evening of inspiration, reflection, and forward momentum at “Celebrate Renewal” on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
Part of the Choral Society’s milestone 50th anniversary season, the annual spring concert captures the spirit of renewal that defines both the season and the organization’s enduring legacy in the Lowcountry.
A Program Rooted in Hope and New Beginnings
“Celebrate Renewal” weaves together beloved choral favorites as well as contemporary masterworks, exploring themes of peace, perseverance, and fresh starts.
Audience favorites such as Nella Fantasia, Let the River Run, and You’ll Never Walk Alone will anchor the evening. The program also features Eric Whitacre’s Seal Lullaby and the poignant emotion of Billy Joel’s And So It Goes alongside Paul Basler’s Psalm 23 featuring Dr. Graham Wood on French horn. Each selection has been thoughtfully chosen to create an immersive musical journey inviting listeners to consider the past while embracing the future.
“This concert represents both reflection and forward momentum,” said Dustin C. Ousley, Artistic Director of the Hilton Head Choral Society. “As we celebrate the spirit of renewal, we’re also honoring the people, music, and moments that have shaped us — while joyfully stepping into the next chapter of HHCS’s future.”
Following the performance, patrons are invited to stay for a reception, offering an opportunity to connect and celebrate.
A Special 50th Anniversary Homecoming
In a meaningful nod to the Choral Society’s rich history, longtime Artistic Director Tim Reynolds will return to conduct several pieces of the concert.
Reynolds’ journey with the HHCS began in 2000, shortly after he moved to Hilton Head Island. What was meant to be a short stay became a decades-long commitment to the organization and the community.
Originally singing with the group and assisting with rehearsals, Reynolds quickly stepped into leadership. Over the course of his tenure – ultimately serving 22 seasons and expanding into a full-time artistic director role – the Choral Society flourished. What began as two concerts per year grew to four. He also launched the Hilton Head Choral Society Presents series, bringing acclaimed ensembles like the Vienna Boys Choir to the Lowcountry. In addition, he established a youth choir and select Chamber Ensemble.
Reynolds officially retired his baton in 2020, passing leadership to Dr. Dustin C. Ousley. Yet his legacy continues to echo in every performance, every rehearsal, and every standing ovation.
His return to the podium for this golden anniversary season is both a tribute and celebration – a strong reminder of the foundation upon which the next chapter is being built.
