It’s the most wonderful time of the year…that’s right, time for the Hilton Head Choral Society’s annual holiday concert! This year’s concert entitled “THE MANY MOODS OF THE SEASON” will take place on Friday, December 9 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway. We invite you to come enjoy an evening full of a variety of musical perspectives, cultures and traditions performed by the full chorus, guest soloists, and orchestra to help get you in that holiday spirit!
This year’s program will celebrate a very traditional perspective of the many moods of the season as the Choral Society presents the Christmas portion of Handel’s classic, Messiah, along with selections from Robert Shaw’s The Many Moods of Christmas.
Maybe you’ll get to hear one of your favorite holiday songs as you are treated to the sounds of the season featuring classics from Handel’s Messiah including: “And the Glory of the Lord,” “For Unto Us a Child is Born,” and “Hallelujah Chorus.” There’s definitely something for everyone to enjoy.
The evening will be a “trip down memory lane” as the Choral Society truly goes back to its “roots” with the presentation of Handel’s Messiah. Maybe some of you remember – it was more than 45 years ago that Martha Gregory organized the Hilton Head Choral Society and directed its first performance of the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah on December 12, 1976. with approximately 500 people in attendance at the Hilton Head Elementary School auditorium.
The special evening will also include a performance of Robert Shaw’s Many Moods of Christmas (Volumes 1 & 3) featuring a variety of sentimental seasonal arrangements such as “Silent Night,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “What Child is This?” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” We are sure that the audience will be singing along to these inspirational holiday classics.
